What is IsoTriv?
At IsoTriv, we run the best trivia nights in venues across Brisbane and Melbourne. We write clever, interesting and funny questions that people from all walks of life will appreciate. The fact that we run hundreds of nights each year means we are always testing and refining what the best kind of question is. We also run fantastic corporate and private trivia nights for businesses, using our 10 years of experience to run smooth, seamless and enjoyable sessions.
Why are you called IsoTriv?
Our founder Aimon Clark ran three venues under the name ‘Man vs Bear Trivia’ in 2020 when the pandemic hit. He didn’t like the name ‘Man vs Bear’ because people found it confusing and there was a new Animal Planet tv show with the same name which had just premiered and he was mistakenly copping a lot of negative feedback about it. In March 2020 he started a Facebook page called ‘Isolation Trivia - Livestreamed for Lockdown’ and ran a trivia stream several times a week. The page took off and pretty soon we were getting tens of thousands of viewers weekly. As we came out of lockdown the Isolation Trivia name had a great following but was starting to sound a bit confusing, so we shortened it to IsoTriv – which could be read as ‘In Search Of Trivia’. People still find it confusing.
How do I play?
Our trivia is free to play! Just come along to one of our trivia nights, grab an answer sheet and a pen, and give it a crack! Every week there’ll be a new set of questions and new prizes to be won.
Where do I play?
We run trivia at venues all across Brisbane, with two in Melbourne. Our venues vary, from breweries to pubs to restaurants – there’s bound to be a venue that’s perfect for you.
How long does trivia run for?
Each week, we have a new set of 40 questions, with a special bonus round. Depending on the venue, the questions are organised into two or three rounds, and each night runs for around an hour and a half.
Does your trivia have screens?
Some venues have screens and some are delivered verbally without visuals. Send us a message if you would like to know which is which!
Do I need to bring a team?
Not at all! Plenty of our players play on their own. Our trivia is meant to be a good time, not stressful - come along and give it a crack, you’ll have a great time!
Are there prizes to be won?
Of course! Each venue offers different prizes. Usually, there are venue vouchers for the top scorers, and free drinks or chippies for the winners of the bonus round. At IsoTriv, we don’t play for cash – it tends to suck all the fun out of the room and attract the wrong kind of player.
How do you write your questions?
Aimon writes all of our questions, drawing from a wide range of topics – pop culture, current events, or whatever seems interesting. Usually, he will sit at his computer for seven hours researching until he hits a fugue state where the greatest trivia questions of all time start to pop out. After this there is a series of testing them and working on the wording to make sure that they are watertight and bring joy.
Who are your hosts?
We have hosts from all different backgrounds – teachers, scientists, musicians, comedians. What they all have in common is that they LOVE trivia! If you want to learn a bit more about them, check out our bio page.
I love trivia! Can I be a host?
We’re always on the lookout for incredible personalities to add to our roster. While most of our venues have a consistent host, we always need new hosts to fill in or take on brand new venues. Shoot us an email at info@isolationtrivia.com.
Do you do corporate or work events?
Absolutely! We love running private trivia events for work functions – it’s the perfect way to socialise, unwind, and have some fun. We have run some massive corporate events/school fundraisers and have experience putting on huge shows at sold-out 500+ seat venues, so we know what we are doing.
To request a quote, just fill out our corporate enquiries trivia form.
I want IsoTriv to be at my venue - who do I speak to?
We’re always on the lookout for amazing new venues to run trivia in. To find out how we could work together, just fill out our trivia in your venue form or email us at info@isolationtrivia.com.
Not On Your Rider
What is Not On Your Rider?
Not On Your Rider is our music trivia gameshow. We started it in 2019 in The Triffid beer garden and have slowly upgraded it over the years with all sorts of crazy stunts. It’s a live version of a panel quiz – think of it like watching an episode of Spicks and Specks or Never Mind The Buzzcocks except you get to play along with your team and win prizes. There are plenty of clips online and full episodes on YouTube if you’d like to get a feel for it – but it’s a fast paced and hilarious night with non-stop entertainment. You’re going to love it – there’s a reason we’ve sold out Splendour in the Grass and the Fortitude Music Hall, and sell out our regular venue, Felons Barrel Hall, every show!
What guests have you had on Not On Your Rider?
We’ve had incredible casts of celebrities from all different backgrounds over the years. With previous guests like Robert Irwin, Adam Hills, The Wiggles, Kate Miller Heidke, Myf Warhurst, Wil Anderson, John Safran, Spankie Jackzon, Mallrat, and members of Powderfinger, The Wiggles, The Chats, The Go Betweens, Ball Park Music, DMAs & Jebediah we’re bound to host guests that you know and love. Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook to find out who our upcoming guests are!
What if I'm bad at music trivia?
A lot of people are intimidated by having to show their music knowledge in a live setting – especially if they don’t have a super diverse team in terms of tastes and ages – but we really try to cater to all players here. A big bulk of the teams don’t play competitively, and the show still works as a great form of entertainment even if you aren’t trying to win. Most players sit back and enjoy the show, come somewhere in the bottom half and have the best night of their month. You won’t be put on the spot to know anything and we try to write it so that every player gets their lightbulb moment.
Where do I get tickets for Not On Your Rider?
Tickets are released ahead of each event – you can find them here. If it’s sold out, don’t fret! Sometimes we’re able to juggle the tables around to make some extra space so send us a message. Make sure to sign up for our email list and keep an eye on our Instagram!
Game On Mole
What is Game On Mole?
Game On Mole is our live podcast and quiz show, created by Aimon Clark and Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson. Two teams of celebrity guests compete in a battle of wits – BUT! One player is secretly the mole who needs to make their team lose without being detected. It started as an idea for a tv show and then morphed into a podcast which morphed into a live show. We used to do it more often but booking five people for a podcast is hard to do consistently so we only do special live events these days – people have to show up if there is an audience.
Who are your guests?
We’ve had a range of guests over the years from a range of backgrounds. We’ve had the likes of Murray Cook, Myf Warhurst, Stephen K Amos, Osher Gunsberg, Alexei Toliopoulos, members of The Chats, Ball Park Music, Cub Sport, and the Jungle Giants.
